Let’s start off with saying that self-love really is the first love, and that’s why we’ve got to start looking after ourselves and prioritising that time that is truly ‘me time’.

At TAN TRUTH we’re all about body positivity and self love, it’s what we stand for and stand by as the TRUTH.

You should give the world that best of you, not what’s left of you and that’s why we’ve pulled together some of our best self-love tips.

1. Mistakes are okay to make

It’s time to start cutting yourself some slack, everybody makes mistakes and it’s okay. Take mistakes as an opportunity to learn and grow from them. On top of this, try to stop comparing yourself to others – we know it can be difficult but over time you can start implementing this and changing your mindset. Just remember, you don’t know the path they walk when they’re not on social media or at their ‘best’. There is no one else on this planet that is like you, you are individual and unique. We all make mistakes, we are all on our own journey to being our best selves.

2. Trust yourself

Sometimes it’s very easy to doubt ourselves, but you know what is best for you in any given moment. Your inner critic is always trying to keep you small and safe, but you deserve the space you fill in this world. So don’t be afraid to trust your instinct and commit to your decisions because in reality you know yourself better that anyone else so you know what your heart and head are saying.

3. Stop comparing yourself to others

This is key for TAN TRUTH. We’re constantly advocating that all bodies are beach bodies because we mean it. Lets stop comparing ourselves to other people, we’re all different inside and out and that is beautiful – it’s what makes the world exciting and interesting.

4. Make time for self-care

Self-care is everything. It gives you time to relax and unwind, or enjoy the things you love the most in the world.

For some people self-care looks like a spa evening at home with full on body-care and tanning routine. For others it is a day out shopping for some full on retail therapy. Everyone has their own way to relax and make time for themselves. We’re always trying to please and suit other people so once in a while we need to take time and do something that exclusively suits us. And we need to remember that that is okay, and actually really healthy to do.

So take that time you need for yourself, to clear your mind and remind yourself why you are the amazing person you are!

5. Positive Affirmations

For some people affirmations might seem a bit ‘silly’, but once you start you might never stop. Start each day by telling yourself something really positive about yourself, do it in your head or out loud into the mirror – whatever you’re most comfortable with. You’ll be surprised at how good it can make you feel, say it loud and proud!

Here are a few examples of affirmations you should tell yourself:

I am worthy. I am enough. I am a really great friend. I’m good at my job. I dealt with that situation really well. I look great. I am beautiful. I am smart. I am caring. I look amazing today!
